I just checked my Facebook page and noticed that Joshua Ledet updated his status telling fans not to be sad for him and that he had just singed a huge deal. That’s BIG news!

The Louisiana Swashbucklers return back to the Lake Charles Civic Center Saturday night after a long road trip.

The Louisiana Swashbucklers are now in a “must win” mode in order to make the PIFL playoffs after another heartbreaking loss. Last Saturday the Bucs fell to the league leading Albany Panthers 54-47.

The Swachbucklers will HONOR OUR FREEDOM FIGHTERS. Members of the US Military, Local Police and Fire Departments from around the area will be honored at the game this Saturday.

Now there are reports that the Alabama fan, Brian H. Downing,  has been indicted on sexual battery charges. Here is the latest.

Brian H. Downing, the Alabama fan seen on a video apparently committing sexual battery on an unconscious LSU fan after the BCS championship football game, has been indicted.

An Orleans Parish grand jury Thursday handed up the indictment against the 32-year-old Downing, formally charging him with one count each of sexual battery of a male victim and obscenity.

The court set a bond in the amount of $50,000.

Travis Matte & The Kingpins have just released their latest CD called “Let’s Party“.  This is the 8th CD that Travis Matte & the Kingpins have released.  Their first CD came out in 2004 called “Dis ain’tcha momma’s Zodico” which featured his first hit “Bar be Que and Drink a few”.

The new CD features 13 new songs and what is impressive is that Travis Matte wrote every song on the new CD.

Travis Matte’s new CD features some get up and dance music that only Travis can deliver along with a couple of ballads and a song about the New Orleans Saints.

One of the songs that stuck out for me when listen to the new CD is a song called “The Price Of Freedom” which Travis wrote and he dedicates the entire CD to our troops who have given their lives for our country and for all who have served!

Monday the news broke that Mitchell Guist, one of the stars of the reality show “Swamp People“, had died at the age of 47.  Then we posted the 911 call that was released.

Now the preliminary autopsy reports are out and the findings so far is that Guist died of natural causes.

Mitchell Guist, a star of the reality TV show “Swamp People,” died of “natural causes,” a local sheriff in Louisiana said.

Assumption Parish Sheriff Mike Waguespack released the preliminary autopsy conclusion Wednesday, although he said final results will not be available for another four or five weeks.

Guist, 47, was working to build a houseboat when he appeared to have a seizure and fell backwards in his boat, said Assumption Parish Sheriff Mike Waguespack.

He was with another person on the Intercoastal Waterway, about 75 miles from New Orleans, at the time of his collapse.

That person, who did not want to be identified, got Guist back to a boat landing, performed CPR and called his wife, who in turn called 911, said the sheriff.

Guist was transferred to the Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City, where he was pronounced dead Monday.

It was a busy weekend here in Southwest Louisiana when Westlake native and American Idol top 3 finalist Joshua Ledet came home to a huge homecoming.

It started off Saturday right here in the Cajun Radio studios with our interview with Joshua.  Then there was a parade, a concert at the Burton Coliseum and then Joshua made an appearance at Contraband Days where I was hosting the Cajun music concerts and he sang there too!

Now tonight he will be back on a national stage singing for votes to put him in the American Idol finale!  Do you know how to vote tonight?

Well it looks like all the networks are loving Cajun’s these days.  With hit reality shows like “Swamp People“, “Cajun Pawn Stars“,  and “Ragin Cajuns” the networks are getting big ratings and big revenue’s from the shows.

Now the network A&E is getting into the mix with their new show called “Cajun Justice“.  The show is based around the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office.

A&E Network presents “Cajun Justice,” a new original real-life series that follows the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office, a world where the sheriff is like a king, voodoo is a common practice and no police call is routine. “Cajun Justice” premieres Thursday, June 7 at 10 PM ET/PT on A&E.

The 2012 edition of “Downtown at Sundown” will begin this Friday Night May 18th in downtown Lake Charles. It is a place where you can get good food, enjoy music and bring the entire family out for a good time.

Here are the details of where “Downtown at Sundown” will be located this year and the lineup.

The City of Lake Charles announces the kick off the 2012 Downtown at Sundown series with the sounds of Boomerang. The event will take place in the street within the 600 block of Ryan between Division and Mill Streets from 6-9pm. The former site of the event will be open and available for parking cars. Downtown at Sundown features a variety of music from local and regional bands as well as food and beverage booths, table top galleries, and activities for kids. We want everyone to come downtown to patronize the businesses and see the ongoing “Streetscape” project.

The Pacific hurricane season officially starts today and it’s already off to an active start.  The first named tropical system of the hurricane season has formed in the Pacific Ocean and her name is Aletta. Tropical Storm Aletta as you can see by the picture is up to 45 mph and it not expected to make landfall anywhere.

Chief Meteorologist Wade Hampton from KPLC sent us the details.

From Wade: The first named tropical system of the year has formed in the Pacific Ocean. Tropical Storm Aletta will not impact any land areas at all. Hurricane season starts tomorrow in the Pacific Ocean; but not until June 1st in the Atlantic. Speaking of hurricane season we will have our annual Hurricane Preparedness Expo at the Prien Lake Mall this Saturday from 11 AM until 3 PM.

Mitchell Guist, one of the stars of the hit reality show “Swamp People“, died yesterday at the age of 48.  Some reports say it was a seizure but some reports say it was a heart attack.

Well here is the 911 call made to authorities while people attempted to resuscitate Mitchell.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a seat belt checkpoint somewhere in the parish this weekend at an undisclosed location.  

On Saturday, May 19, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a seat belt checkpoint at an undisclosed location in the parish.

“Studies and statistics make it clear that buckling up is very important for your safety,” says Sheriff Mancuso.  “According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, seat belts save over 13,000 lives every year.”

“Under Louisiana law, drivers and passengers in a moving vehicle are required to wear their seat belts, greatly improving the chances of surviving a crash and reducing severity of injuries that may occur,” says Sheriff Tony Mancuso.

These checkpoints are funded by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.

It not hurricane season yet but a tropical depression has already for Pacific Ocean.  I spoke with my buddy Chief Meteorologist Wade Hampton from KPLC who confirmed this for me.

Here are the details.

The first depression of the 2012 hurricane season has formed in the Pacific Ocean. T.D. One-E should weaken as it continues moving west.

I know what your thinking!  ALREADY?  Well at least it’s in the pacific and not the Atlantic of gulf.  Now is a good time to get prepared for the upcoming hurricane season!

It’s pretty straightforward, as the best advice usually is.  At the same time it’s very obvious and practical — and yet, as the audition episodes of ‘Idol’ prove year-in and year-out, so many people can’t seem to grasp it.  What’s Josh’s advice?  Well, be yourself.  Don’t copy other people.  Duh.

And it’s great and all, but we’ll see some poor soul next year in Season 12 who thinks she’s Christina Aguilera or some boob who thinks he can mimic Stevie Wonder.  And they’ll wonder why they don’t make it through to Hollywood.  You can say what you want about the way Josh’s voice sounds, but he brings his own personality to it, no matter how much he can sound like Otis Redding or Sam Cooke.

Having said that, how do you keep from blowing out a voice like Josh’s?  Surely he has some sort of medical secret weapon, right?

Reports are coming in that one of the stars from the hit reality show “Swamp People” has died. Mitchell Guist who is featured on the show has died according to TMZ.

TMZ is reporting:

Law enforcement sources tell us … Mitchell was out in his boat along the Belle River … when he “fell.” Witnesses say he appeared to have been suffering from a seizure.

We’re told another person on the boat returned the vessel to the dock and called 911. Emergency personnel responded to the scene and transported Mitchell to a nearby hospital … but it was too late.
According to WBRZ.com, Mitchell was discovered at 9 AM in St. Martin Parish, Louisiana.
Law enforcement sources tell us … someone tried to perform CPR on Guist … but attempts to resuscitate the reality star were unsuccessful.

As we reported last week, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Louisiana State Police conducted a DWI Checkpoint over the weekend.

Here are the results from that event.

Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop D, with assistance from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, conducted a DWI checkpoint on U.S. Highway 90 east of Lake Charles in Calcasieu Parish resulting in five DWI arrests.

In addition to the five DWI arrests, troopers issued 2 citations for an open alcoholic beverage container, 3 for an expired motor vehicle inspection decal, 2 for driving without a driver’s license, 1 for driving an unregistered vehicle, 4 for driving under suspension, 2 for no seat belt, 1 for improper vehicle equipment, and 1 for failure to obey a police officer.
